SmartSTART - How to apply | Step 1
Step One: Review Criteria and Guidelines
To qualify for the SmartSTART program, you will need:
A bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university.
Act 34 Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History, Act 151 Pennsylvania Child Abuse History and Act 114 Pennsylvania Department of Education FBI Clearances.
A completed online application form.
Supporting documents for application: general letter of interest, essay, reference letters, resume, clearances and official college transcripts.
A check or money order made out to the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for $125 (non-refundable) must be received before the training session.
Successful completion of a one-day orientation program.
Successful completion of online training through the Utah State University/STEDI/Substitute Teaching Institute.
Successful completion of three-hour Act 126/31 mandated reporter training.
On-site interviews and/or observations with participating school districts.
You will need a current e-mail address to apply for SmartSTART.
The Allegheny Intermediate Unit will be providing information regarding application status via e-mail. If your e-mail address should change, please update your record.
