Paraeducators are often an important part of programs that provide special education services and they typically work closely with students. Therefore, it is essential to provide valuable professional development to this significant group. This service is subsidized by IDEA Component II Funds.
IDEA training and consultation coordinators provide paraeducator training opportunities based upon individual district or program needs. Customized modules incorporate relevant content drawn from a large library of topics.

Schools may also utilize training materials designed by the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network, PaTTAN, that align with the Council for Exceptional Children’s Competency Checklist, an optional tool for supporting paraeducator professional development.
For the convenience of our schools/programs, presentations and handout materials are available on the PATTAN website. The Paraeducator Competency Checklist, developed by the Council for Exceptional Children, can be utilized to track progress towards professional development completion.
