The Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s Bridges to Wellness program brings behavioral and therapeutic support directly into schools, helping districts address student needs while minimizing disruption to learning.

Through prevention, early intervention, individualized support, case management, and connections to community providers, Bridges to Wellness gives schools an additional layer of support for students experiencing behavioral, emotional, social, family, or substance-use-related challenges.

Supporting Students Without Academic Disruption

Schools often encounter students who need more individualized support than existing systems can easily provide. Bridges to Wellness works alongside school personnel, families, and community providers to help identify needs, coordinate services, and keep students connected to their education.

Supports include:

Individual student wellness check-ins and personalized support for early intervention and prevention.
Connecting students, families, schools, and community resources through provider recommendations, referrals, and coordinated case management.
Drug & alcohol assessments and in-school outpatient counseling through our partnership with Gateway Rehabilitation.
No-cost mental health counseling for students through our partnership with UpStreet Pittsburgh.
Coordination of academic and school-based therapeutic support, utilizing our own AIU Waterfront Learning platform for seamless educational outplacement.
An overall Wellness theme focused on student strengths and restorative practices, using a whole-student approach that addresses emotional, social, intellectual, physical, occupational, and inner wellness.

Who We Are

Gail Moore and Sandy Slater each bring more than 25 years of experience working with students and families throughout Allegheny County as school counselors. They have a deep understanding of the systems and supports that come into play during challenging times in students’ lives.

Gail and Sandy have supported students through a variety of settings, including juvenile court placements, shelter systems, and community schools. Their extensive experience working with students during periods of significant need provides a strong foundation for the whole-student approach to promoting and supporting student wellness today.

Who We Support

We serve as an additional resource when a student is experiencing challenges that may be affecting attendance, behavior, relationships, engagement, or academic success. The program can also support students who require an educational outplacement by coordinating academic planning, behavioral supports, and eventual reentry into their home school.

Whether your district is looking for an additional early-intervention resource, help connecting students with community providers, or more coordinated support for students with complex needs, we can work alongside your team.
