Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
Under the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), websites and online services must notify parents and obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13.
In an educational setting, COPPA allows school districts to provide consent on behalf of parents for the use of educational tools and services. This enables schools to use approved digital resources without requiring individual parental consent for each platform.
COPPA applies only when a website or service collects personal information from children. If no personal information is collected, COPPA does not apply.
Approved Apps and Websites
AIU carefully reviews and selects digital tools and online resources that protect the privacy of students and staff.
Some educational platforms may require limited personally identifiable information (such as a student’s name or school email address) to function properly. These tools are evaluated to ensure they meet privacy and security standards, including COPPA compliance.
Only applications listed below are approved for student use within our school districts. Access may vary by grade level to ensure content is developmentally appropriate and aligned with instructional needs.
Applications not included on this list are not supported by AIU.
