Highlands Family Center received a grant the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania via a grant of $5,000 to assist with a recent surge in food needs. The United Way, in partnership with the Heinz Endowments, awarded the grant to respond to the recent lapse in SNAP benefits.
The AIU’s family centers support the various needs of our Allegheny County communities with routine food drives in collaboration with external agencies such as 412 Food Rescue, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, and more. With these funds, the Highlands Family Center will provide local families with pantry staples, produce (when available), and kid-friendly options to ensure homes have consistent access to nutritious food. This grant enables our centers to continue the important work of addressing food insecurity and other needs in our communities.
