Students from the family and consumer science class at Pathfinder School have been participating in the Pittsburgh Gingerbread House Display and Competition for over a decade, and this year they took home first place in the middle school category!
Students voted to recreate Hagrid’s Hut from Harry Potter, earning top honors for their entry, “Hagrid’s Holiday Hut.” Students made gingerbread dough, royal icing, and gum paste from scratch, and used patterns, utensils, and simple techniques to bring the magical design to life.
Vocational students worked one-on-one with staff to create intricate details, while home economics classes collaborated to construct the house and its surroundings. It was a true team effort!
