School technology teams gather for networking event

On June 16, the AIU Technology Services Division hosted Open Tabs: Building Connections Across School Technology Teams, a free, in-person networking event. The event was designed to bring together technology support staff from across the region to connect, learn, and build professional relationships.

“We have a lot of tabs open,” said Richard Platts, chief technology officer at the AIU, referencing the many responsibilities assigned to technology support staff. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, saying, “The people in this room are the most valuable part of this event. Let’s create a broader network outside of our school district.”

To kick things off, an icebreaker activity had participants folding and flying paper airplanes across the conference room. The activity fostered friendly competition and an immediate sense of connection that carried through the rest of the day.

Participants engaged in facilitated discussions on relevant and timely topics including inventory tools and strategies, app vetting processes, summer Chromebook deployment, and assistive technology. The sessions provided valuable insight and sparked thoughtful dialogue around common challenges and innovative solutions.

The event served as a meaningful step toward building a stronger, more connected community of technology professionals dedicated to supporting K–12 education.
