Earlier this month, the AIU’s Alternative Education program hosted its third annual Restorative Practices summit, a forum with the goal of introducing restorativeĀ justice techniques in the classroom. Eleven schools from Allegheny County attended the summit this year along with staff from the AIU’s community school program and the University of Pittsburgh.
Students and administrators alike gathered to work on relationship building skills and conflict resolution strategies. Peers held discussions with the goal of relating to one another, fostering empathy and accountability, and creating a positive atmosphere that they could work to implement in their own schools.
