    Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

    Are you considering career with animals?  Then, this just might be the program for you. The Zoo’s Conservation Education Department is offering this series of in-person and virtual programs that will highlight different careers at the Zoo. You will get an in-depth look into the careers of animal keepers, aquarists and the Veterinarian/Animal Health department. You will explore educational and training requirements and personal stories of the staff that have dedicated their lives for the care of our amazing animals.

    Session 1: In Person at the Pittsburgh Zoo: Wednesday, October 7 from 2 – 4 pm or Saturday, October 10 from 10 am – noon

    Topic: Animal training. Meet keepers who care for sea otters, sea lions and our elephant seals. Learn about training and enrichment.

    Session 2: Virtual: Wednesday, October 14 from 2- 4 pm

    Topic: All about the aquarium. Meet the curators and aquarists that care for over 4,000 individual animals from tiny sea horses to the black tip reef sharks.

    Session 3: Virtual: Wednesday, October 28 from 2 -4 pm

    Topic: Do you want to be a Veterinarian? Meet our vet staff, go on a virtual tour of the zoo’s hospital and get all your questions answered.

    Session 4: In Person at the Pittsburgh Zoo: Wednesday, November 4 from 2 – 4 pm or Saturday, November 7 from 10 am – noon

    Topic: Meet the mammals: Go on a tour through the zoo, stopping to talk to keepers along the way. You will meet the cat keepers and the giraffe and elephant keepers and learn about the daily duties in caring for these animals.

    Session 5: Virtual: Wednesday, November 18 from 2 – 4pm

    Topic: Conservation: Learn about a few of the conservation programs that the zoo is involved in such as the Sea Turtle Second Chance program. Also learn about the zoo’s conservation efforts with elephants and Victoria Fall Wildlife Trust in Africa.
