McKeesport Family Center hosting vaccine clinic Friday, Aug. 27
Convenience is at the heart of McKeesport Family Center's COVID-19 vaccination clinic this Friday, Aug. 27.
Anyone 12 years of age and older is eligible to receive the vaccine from 3-5 p.m. at the family center's 339 5th Ave. location in McKeesport. Registration is encouraged but walk-ins are welcome.
Sanitizing, mask wearing and social distancing have been encouraged to family center visitors but access to vaccines remain an obstacle for some families, which sparked the idea for Friday's clinic.
While open to anyone, the vaccine clinic was made with McKeesport families in mind who have limited transportation resources, according to Martha Sherlock, site supervisor of the McKeesport Family Center. She also leads the AIU's Family and Immigrant Connections program which provides services for Latino and immigrant families in McKeesport and across Allegheny County.
"We focus on the family, so it's important that everyone can come together to get vaccinated if they haven't (done so yet)," Sherlock said.
First shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which recently received full FDA approval, will be provided on Aug. 27 and second shots will be administered on Sept. 17 at the McKeesport Family Center location. To register ahead, please call the McKeesport Family Center at 412-672-6970.
