AIU Hosts Mock Interview & Employment Fair

Students learning about employers Think back to your first job interview.  Did you know what to expect or say?  Interviewing can be a stressful experience especially for teens pining for their first job.  It requires a certain skillset such as listening comprehension, self-confidence and focus.  For the past eight years the AIU and the Transition Coordinating Council of Allegheny County (TCCAC) have hosted the TCCAC Mock Interview and Employment Fair.  Facilitated by the AIU’s Dr. Erin Grimm, the Mock Interview and Employment Fair provides the opportunity for youth with disabilities to improve their interviewing skills so that they can present their best self to potential employers. 

Thanks to the generosity of UPMC Center for Engagement and Inclusion, this year the event was held on May 7 and was attended by more than 100 students from school districts throughout Allegheny County.  Attendees had the chance to learn about services and employment opportunities and were able to put their skills to the test during one-on-one interviews.  The event could not be made possible without the collaboration and coordination of the TCCAC Planning Committee as well as the partnerships with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation & Early Reach, UPMC Center for Engagement & Inclusion, ALCOSAN, PA Career Link, LOWES, NiSource, FedEx, Giant Eagle, PA Youth Initiative, Baldwin Whitehall School District Human Resource Department, Goodwill of Western PA, Pinnacle, Carnegie Library, State Farm, Partners 4 Work and the City of Pittsburgh.
