Joseph Shaulis, Esq., General Counsel

Joseph Shaulis, Esq. serves as the AIU's general counsel and is member of the Executive Leadership Team. He is responsible for all litigation, legislative policy and legal matters, and also oversees internal, external and corporate communications.  Before joining the AIU, Mr. Shaulis held several positions with Pittsburgh-based law firms including Weiss Burkardt Kramer, LLC, where he served as solicitor for several school entities and represented public entities in civil litigation, administrative proceedings and arbitration, focusing on labor and employment issues. Previously, Mr. Shaulis represented labor unions and employees, primarily in the health care, social services and hospitality industries. He worked as a newspaper editor and reporter before becoming a lawyer.  Mr. Shaulis holds a juris doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ohio University. He is admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and all lower courts, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
