Family Needs & Support
Our family support offerings are designed to provide essential resources that support the growth of healthy families in our region.
The Adult Education program offers educational and employment resouces to adults and families in Allegheny County.
This program provides a safe and structured place for children of working parents in the Penn Hills area. The After-School program assists children in grades K - 6 with improving their academic achievement, social interaction skills, and school attendance. Children are transported to the center from their respective schools and provided with educational support, enrichment activities, recreation and cultural opportunities.
The Education for Children & Youth Experiencing Homelessness program facilitates the education of homeless children and youth in nine counties in Region 4, which includes Allegheny, Beaver, Bedford, Fayette, Fulton, Greene, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland Counties.

Family Support Centers are community-based sites serving families in the Clairton, Duquesne, East Allegheny, Highlands, McKeesport, Penn Hills, Pittsburgh City School, Steel Valley, Sto Rox, West Mifflin and Wilkinsburg school districts. Services include home visits, employment support, developmental assessments and transportation.
The AIU's Fatherhood Initiative is designed to work with and support fathers as they overcome parenting and workplace challenges.
Project ELECT assists pregnant and parenting teens in school districts and helps them continue their education while dealing with the challenges of having young children. Teens are encouraged to seek higher education opportunities and develop career goals.
HUGS is an OUD/SUD support program provided by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. HUGS provides recovery support services to individuals and families who have struggles with opioid and substance use or in need of use or in need of treatment services.
