Step Two: Collect Supporting Documents
In addition to filing out an online application, you will need a number of supporting documents to complete your credentials file. Important instructions are listed below.
This general letter of interest should include the applicant's name, and should be addressed "To whom it may concern" or "To the participating school districts". The letter should serve as an introduction of an individual applicant to the parties listed above.
This should be a brief outline of your education and work experience.
Please write an essay describing your reasons for wanting to participate in the SmartSTART Program. Sign your name at the bottom of the essay.
Submit three signed written letters of reference. These references can be the same or different than the references you listed on your online application. The references should be current and at least one should be from a professional employee.
Official College Transcripts
Official transcripts in a college sealed envelope are required. These transcripts are necessary for showing proof of your bachelor's degree and for securing an emergency permit.
Act 34, Act 151 and Act 114 Clearances
Copies of Act 34 PA State Police Criminal History, Act 151 PA Child Abuse and Act 114 PA Department of Education FBI Clearances must be received before you are eligible to teach in a classroom (dated within one year). For the Act 114 FBI Clearance, applicants must register with IDEMIA (Morpho Trust) prior to going to the fingerprint site. Registration is available online 24 hours/day, seven days a week at https://uenroll.identogo.com/ The AIU code is : 1KG6S7.
All supporting documents can be sent to the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and should be neatly typed or hand-printed using black or blue ink. You may also bring everything with you to the orientation. If you do mail your supporting documentation please mail all of the above materials to:
