SUMMARY:Check Your Feed: How is Student Digital Well-Being Influenced?
DESCRIPTION:  \nUncover how social media trends can shape student perspective\, & learn actionable strategies to empower students to navigate digital content at this free transformED Educator Workshop.\n  \nRECOGNIZE how students are being influenced. This workshop aims to help participants identify and decode hateful elements in trending content\, including algostrategies\, false and misleading information\, punchlines\, and micro-aggressions. \n REPORT and/or take appropriate (in)action. Because cognitive skills related to perception\, awareness\, and empathy are still developing\, teens frequently dismiss hate and extremism as an inevitable part of viral participation. This workshop emphasizes teaching students to become active\, as opposed to passive\, consumers of social media. \nREDUCE exposure to hate and extremism. With the influence and intention of social media algorithms\, the concern is that viral trends may be an entry point into a meandering rabbit hole that leads toward more extremist views. This workshop helps participants assist students in reducing this exposure. \n\nBackground | The facilitators are a multidisciplinary and multi-organizational research team\, funded by the Collaboratory Against Hate Research and Action Center in Pittsburgh\, PA\, studying viral extremism on TikTok to create an educational intervention to raise awareness\, mitigate harm\, and prevent radicalization especially among young digital native people. \nWhat to Bring | Laptop or tablet\, if possible \nWho Should Attend | Teachers\, Administrators\, School Counselors \nLunch will be provided. \nRegister on Eventbrite\n  \nLearn more about transformED\n

These hands-on activities provide engaging activities for students to gain an understanding of materials science and the applications of materials in the world around them \nBackground | The ASM Materials Education Foundation creates the spark of scientific and engineering knowledge that ignites a journey of innovation and discovery. The Foundation doesn’t just support classrooms – it transforms them. Through dynamic\, hands-on curriculum\, educators are equipped with a treasure trove of tools that go beyond textbooks\, igniting a passion for learning that stretches far beyond the four walls of a traditional classroom. \nWho Should Attend | STEAM Teachers (7-12)\, STEAM Coaches\, and Administrators with a keen interest in STEAM \nLunch will be provided. \n**Special Location | West Mifflin Area High School\, 91 Commonwealth Ave\, West Mifflin\, PA 15122  \n \nRegister on Eventbrite\n  \nLearn more about transformED
