This workshop will lead you through how hydroponics works\, various types of systems\, and STEELS-aligned lessons and projects that engage and excite students. Learn how to utilize the engineering design process with students to solve problems involving environmental literacy and sustainability and come ready to enjoy our own hydroponically grown salad bar for lunch! \n**This workshop will take place at the NEW Fluxspace Experience Center where participants will have an opportunity to interact with a Flex Farm hydroponics system. \nIn addition to on-street parking\, limited free parking is available in a gravel lot across from the Fluxspace Experience Center. \nBackground | The mission of Fluxspace is to help educators\, schools\, and organizations experience the future of learning environments and understand the innovative programs\, products\, experiences\, and mindsets that should take place in them. \nWho Should Attend | K-12 educators interested in learning about hydroponics \nLunch will be provided (featuring a salad bar with hydroponically-grown lettuce that we will harvest together!) \nSpecial Location | Fluxspace Experience Center\, 831 W. DESCRIPTION:Try hands-on K–2 tools you can literally take back with you! Connect essential learning to a K–2 lending library kit made for your classroom \n\n\n\n\nDescription \nAs a K–2 teacher\, you know how powerful it is when young learners can think\, move\, and problem-solve through hands-on experiences. This workshop brings that idea to life through a new offering from the AIU STEAM Lending Library: Early Elementary Kits designed specifically for our youngest learners. \nYou will spend time rotating through four hands-on tools—Bee-Bots\, Dash robots\, Intelino SMART Trains\, and Marble Runs—trying each one out the way your students would. Along the way\, we’ll connect these tools to real classroom possibilities across ELA\, math\, science\, social studies\, and more\, using example activities and guided planning time to spark ideas you can immediately adapt. \nLeave with increased confidence and a kit you can borrow and use in your classroom for several months of student use. \nNo prior experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to try alongside others. \n*See note below about attending as a grade-level team. \nBackground | The AIU STEAM Lending Library\, including the Early Elementary Kit\, is made possible with support from the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and Wesco. \nWhat to Bring | A laptop or tablet\, if possible. \nWho Should Attend | Teachers K-2 whose districts are served by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and would like to borrow an Early Elementary Lending Library kit customized for our youngest learners. \nNo prior experience needed. \n*IMPORTANT!
