Trauma Education & Response (TEAR)
-
Trauma Education and Response (TEAR) is a community approach in the Highlands School District and New Kensington Area School District to serving and supporting children who have experienced a traumatic event when law enforcement has been engaged with a family. Specifically, law enforcement notifies the TEAR team at the Highlands Family Center to work with school district staff as well as family center staff to provide support and resources to the impacted family. School district staff prepare strategies to support the impacted school-age children, and the family center engages the adults to ensure family needs are met. Additionally, training is provided to community members to raise awareness about trauma’s impact on child development.
