The AIU's professional development services provide a variety of customized professional education options to teachers, administrators, and other school staff. Professional development specialists can also provide support and guidance in developing and implementing a variety of activities.

Child and Adolescent Behavioral and Mental Health Education Child and Adolescent Behavioral and Mental Health Education 

The AIU is committed to expanding the knowledge of school-based health professionals, educators, administrators, and parents, regarding child and adolescent behavioral and mental health disorders. In order to more effectively support students with behavioral and mental health disorders it is important to enhance coordination and integration within the educational setting, service delivery systems and families.

Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) LETRS 

The LETRS training workshops give teachers and reading coaches a deeper understanding of language structure and how to help students who struggle with reading.

Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching

The Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) is a statewide resource for coaches to develop and support consistent, high-quality classroom instruction and practice through collaboration with their intermediate unit mentor.

The AIU offers a variety of professional development opportunities.

Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtII) Reading Achievement Center

RtII is a comprehensive, multi-tiered, standards-aligned strategy to provide instruction and interventions that match the needs of students.  The goal is to proactively improve student achievement for all learners. Training and technical assistance is available to school-based teams to increase their capacity to provide meaningful educational services and programs for all children in reading, writing, math and other academic areas as outlined in the Pennsylvania academic standards. The educational specialists can assist district personnel in conducting program assessments, analyzing student data and developing a plan of action which would address curricular, instructional and student variables.

Supporting Student Athletes Student Athletes and Traumatic Brain Injury 

The AIU is committed to expanding the knowledge of school administrators and staff, student-athletes, parents, coaches, nurses and professionals regarding concussion management, sudden cardiac arrest and heat exhaustion to enhance coordination and integration within the educational setting and service delivery systems to effectively support student athletes.
