Step Five: Orientation, Interviews & Training
Do I Have To Attend?
All training for the Smart START program is mandatory. If you are unable to attend the trainings listed below you may sign up for the winter session in January 2011.
In the event of low enrollment the training is subject to cancellation up to one week prior to the scheduled training below. You will be notified by e-mail.
Orientation - Wednesday September 8, 2010 (8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)
The Topics covered are:
- Overview of SmartSTART
- Preparation and Professionalism
- Confidentiality/Ethical Issues
- District Orientation (District Representatives will be on site)
- District visitations
DAY 1 TRAINING - Thursday, September 9, 2010 - Communication (8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)
- Effective Communication
- Classroom Management
Additional TRAINING - Wednesday September 15, 2010 (8:30 A.M. - 11:30 A.M.)
- Diversity/Conflict Management Training by Robert Burley, Burley Associates
DAY 2 TRAINING - Wednesday, September 22, 2010 (8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)
- Debrief District Visitations
- Students with Diverse Needs
- Instructional Strategies
- Emergency Permits
- Sub Packs
All training sessions are held at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit at The Waterfront in Homestead, 475 East Waterfront Drive,
