What We Do

Ken-Asia Minimize disruptions to education by addressing the PA Department of Education's Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program's top ten barriers to education.  

Direct Services

  • school enrollment/placement
  • emergency transportation
  • school supplies, uniforms, fees
  • preschool supportive services
  • summer enrichment programs 
  • regular school attendance incentive projects 
  • parent workshops and conferences
  • tracking/transfer of records
  • agency referrals

Additional Services

  • reinforce and expand the preschool curriculum to include the parent(s)

  • encourage participation of the parent(s) in the child's learning process

  • expand the learning environment to include the shelter or area where the parent(s) and child interact

Capacity Building

Building the skills of others to effectively address the needs of homeless children through:

  • a strong collaborative represented by homeless liaisons from each of the 133 school districts in our area of service; 

  • a strong collaborative of shelter providers;

  • a strong collaboration with local universities through service-learning projects;

  • a strong collaborative of knowledgeable interns and tutors from local schools and universities;

  • presentations and trainings for various publics to raise awareness.
