Alternative Education
The Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Alternative Education Program (AEP) is an educational system providing instruction, school counseling, and advocacy for students (grades 7-12) who have been temporarily excluded from a traditional school setting for a variety of circumstances. The AEP serves students living within Allegheny County who may or may not be affiliated with Juvenile Court or the Office of Children, Youth, and Families.
The Alternative Education Program operates five alternative schools approved by the PA Department of Education. In addition, the AEP operates detention center school programs, and a school located within the Allegheny County Jail for juvenile offenders.
The AEP boasts over a 50 year history of educational success with students from urban and suburban neighborhoods in Allegheny County.
