Adults in Allegheny County have many educational opportunities through the AIU's Adult Education and Workforce Development department. Most of the programs target economically and academically challenged parents who are interested in improving educational and employment opportunities for their family.  Courses help potential employees develop skills needed in the workplace or to transition to post-secondary education.

Our adult education programs serve students in various communities throughout the county.  Currently we have classes for Adult Basic Education students and English as a second Language Students that wish to transition into post-secondary education or training programs or improve their skills for employment reasons.  We help students develop a career path while teaching them the basic skills necessary to excel in their jobs and academic environment.  We also teach test taking strategies to help students pass the high school equivalency exams, college entrance exams, or other required tests needed for employment or entering post-secondary training programs.

Funding for these programs comes from a variety of sources including the PA Department of Education and the Allegheny County Department of Human Services.
